New volume on interwar Chisinau launched

Several unknown aspects of interwar Chisinau, such as memorable events, emblematic places, but also notable personalities can be discovered in the volume “Identities of Chisinau. The interwar city "fifth edition. The book was published with the support of the Chisinau City Hall and will reach all libraries in Chisinau, informs Moldova 1.

The volume brings together the materials of the fifth International Conference "Identities of Chisinau", which took place in 2018 and was organized on the occasion of the anniversary of the Great Union.

"The volume brings together 28 studies of scientists from Romania, the Republic of Moldova and a colleague from Sweden who, traditionally, is a good friend of Chisinau. The paper presents Chisinau from several perspectives, first of all, its culturalization, economic growth and its social growth ", said the coordinator of the volume and the historian Sergiu Musteaţă.

About the evolution of the city of Chisinau: from the imperial, cultural city, which had no Romanian book library, no Romanian school to a Chisinau in the late 30s, which had over a hundred Romanian cultural institutions and 32 churches in which the Liturgy was held in Romanian ", said the coordinator of the volume Alexandru Corduneanu.

It was an extraordinary period, very beautiful when Chisinau lived a tumultuous life after 1918, in the 30s, the first half of the 40s, but also the extremely dramatic period of 1940 ", said the scientific secretary of the Institute of History Silvia Corlăteanu.

"Unfortunately, Chisinau remains a stranger that lived with suffering and loneliness with dignity, a space of symbols by  preserving the identity heritage too little known and too little capitalized," said the university professor.

"The interwar city" is a history textbook for Chisinau residents, said Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici. "It is a very interesting book and will be distributed to all branches of the municipal library."

The project is supported by the civic group for cultural heritage, the Association of Young Historians of the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with Chisinau City Hall. More about “Identities of Chisinau. The interwar city "you can find out tonight from the historian Sergiu Musteaţă in the show" Cine vine la noi? ".
