Grigore Vieru would have turned 84 today

The great poet of the people, Grigore Vieru, would have turned 84 today, February 14. On this occasion, several events will be organized in Chisinau, but also in the localities, according to Radio Moldova News.

At the "Grigore Vieru" House Museum in the village of Pererîta, the home of the late literate, will be held a new edition of the "Grigore Vieru" International Festival of Poetry.

TRM.MD recalls that Grigore Vieru was born on February 14, 1935, in Pererita village, Briceni district. He has signed over 60 books of lyrics for children and adults. His creation was edited in 15 countries. In 1996, he was decorated with the "Order of the Republic". In 1990, he was elected honorary member, and in 1993 he was a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy. He died on January 18, 2009, following a road accident.

Grigore Vieru's name carries a boulevard in Chisinau and several educational institutions in the country, and a poet's bust is placed not only on the Classical Alley in the capital, but also in the town of Straseni.
