Byzantine icons can be admired and purchased at the National Library

Icons painted on wood in Byzantine style by a group of painters from the "Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici" School of Arts in Corneşti, Ungheni, were exhibited in the hall of the National Library in the capital. Icons can be admired and purchased. Their price varies from 300 to 3,800 lei, reports IPN.

Plastic artist Cezara Colesnic said that last summer, a summer painting school with the participation of students from art institutions from Corneşti and Chisinau, under the aegis of Bulgarian painter Krasimir Savov, was organized in the National Library. This, being a pictorial iconographer, saw a special talent in the young people of Cornesti, which led him to launch the idea of an icon painting course.

According to the plastic artist, the course started in September last year and was attended by 14 students from Corneşti School of Art, passionate and interested in the drawing of icons. "The art of the icon is very specific. It's a little out of traditional painting. There is another atmosphere when painting an icon. It's another state of mind," said Cezara Colesnic.

The painter Kasimir Savov mentioned at the inauguration of the exhibition that after seeing the talent of the students from the art school in Cornesti, he did not want to break the connection with them. He went to the school's director to ask permission for a painting course. He received a cabinet, the necessary materials were purchased, and the proposal was made to students to attend the course. They were receptive to the call. At the exhibition there were 40 works by 14 pupils.

National Library Director Elena Pintilei said that "the iconographer Krasimir Savov is a novel personality in this field of art, teaches young people, transmits them the talents and abilities, and then creates an artist." Elena Pintilei argues that the inauguration of this exhibition within the NBRM is an activity that promotes the institution she is leading and alongside the religious book exhibition, organized by the NBRM, it is nicely combined around the Easter holidays.

The pupils' work costs from 300 to 800 lei, and the ones from Krasimir Savov from 500 to 3,800 lei. The money from the sale of icons will go for the purchase of materials for the art school and the remuneration of the students' work. The exhibition is open until May 19th.
