Pan flute player Vasile Iovu turns 70 today

The first professional pan flute player in Moldova and the first panpipe teacher in Chisinau, the author of the first "panpipe method" for secondary and university education, Vasile Iovu, turns 70 today. The people's artist, knight of the Order of the Republic, Vasile Iovu says that the panpipe is a divine musical instrument, informs Radio Moldova.

"I loved the panpipe since childhood and I can't get enough of this wonderful sound. I don't know if there is any divine instrument like this through its vibration, extraordinary sound that is special compared to other instruments ", said the people's artist Vasile Iovu.

"I have known him since childhood. Vasile Iovu has done a lot for our culture. He is the first professional panflute player in the Republic of Moldova ", said Constantin Rusnac.

Vasile Iovu is the winner of the National Award. Decisive for his true musical career was his meeting in 1971, in Vilnius, Lithuania, with the famous Romanian panpipe player Gheorghe Zamfir, who guided and blessed him in the Romanian music.
