Moldovans settled in Italy, worried about the spread of coronavirus infection

The spread of coronavirus infection in northern Italy worries Moldovan citizens living in other parts of the peninsula. People say, lately, there are few hygiene products in the shops and protective masks are in high demand.

"There is panic in society, but not to the extent that people would not leave their homes. We all work normally, except for schools and kindergartens which will be closed until Friday. Also, public events are banned. The public places are not so crowded since the first cases of coronavirus disease were registered, and the sales in the shop where I work have registered a decrease in the last days”, told for TRM.MD, Romina Braşoveanu, a young woman residing in Turin, Italy.

At the same time, she said that the Italian authorities are urging people not to go to the hospital if they have symptoms of illness but to call 112 service.

"If I have flu symptoms, I have to call the doctor at home, to avoid any possible spread of the disease. Older people and those with chronic illnesses are prone to illness. I have heard that there have been cases in which people have been treated”, said the young woman.

Near Milan, people are more worried after the first case of coronavirus has been confirmed. The mayor of Milan took the decision to close schools and universities for a week and the dome of Milan was also closed.

"Yes, we have great 'joy' here. You're afraid to leave the house to go to the supermarket. A case of confirmed coronavirus was detected even 30 km away, from the locality where I live”, said  for TRM.MD, Violeta Prodan, a Moldovan who settled near Milan.

According to La Repubblica, 219 cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in Italy so far, and five people died.

According to official data, there are about 140 thousand Moldovans in Italy.
