Only three farmers in the Gagauz autonomy applied for state subsidies

They would like more state support, but are less informed - only three farmers in the Gagauzian autonomy have so far applied for subsidies granted by the Farming Intervention and Payments Agency (AIPA) to young farmers who can reach up to one million lei. The agency's offer is valid until July 9, reports Moldova 1.

Alexander Onofrei of Comrat, for five years, has been engaged in raising the Anglo-Nubian breed goats, which he imported from America. With the help of several programs and non-reimbursable loans he has applied in the country, his business development project has every chance of realizing in the shortest time, namely, the construction of his own farm. For now, the farmer works in rented areas where he produces meat and milk.

Local AIPA Branch Officers say potential grant beneficiaries are not very active yet. Of those who have already applied for subsidies, most are busy in the field of animal husbandry and beekeeping.

"The subsidy program for young farmers and women is a pilot program. For men, they refer to those under the age of 35 and for women there is no age limit. Last year we had only one beneficiary who received 650,000 lei for the development of the livestock business. This year there are three potential beneficiaries for total subsidies of 1.65 million lei. All applications are sent for approval to the AIPA headquarters," said Ana Caraidali, head of subsidiary at AIPA.

The grant scheme aims to encourage the creation of small businesses, improve their economic performance, create new jobs, increase investment in innovative technologies.

Five priority areas have been identified: modernization and equipping of livestock farms, purchase of breeding animals, growing of vegetables on protected land, setting up multiannual plantations and stimulating investments for post-harvest processing.

In order to benefit from the advance payments, the main conditions are the development of business in the rural area and the creation of jobs. The amount of money provided by the state is 65% of the eligible costs but not more than one million lei. Applications will be received by July 9th.
