IT field becomes more attractive among women

Though mostly men work in the IT field, women build successful careers in IT field too. The Tech Women Summit was organized in order to encourage the transfer of experience between IT professionals and to motivate new generations of women leaders. This is the first edition of the event that was dedicated exclusively to women and girls working in IT, Moldova 1 TV reports.

Anastasia Shirşun has been working in the IT sector for six years. She admits she faced several stereotypes when she chose her career, but she says that if you're really passionate, you're demonstrating your value in any career.

The Tech Women Summit event brought together women who have already built successful IT careers, but also young women who are just starting to build their future in the field.

Specialists say active women's involvement in IT is also important from an economic point of view.

"Statistics show that if there were 50 to 50 in the EU in general, it would be an added value of about nine billion Euros in the  budget if there are more people in the IT field," said Ana Chiriţa, project coordinator.

"When it comes to IT as well as any other field, women and men have the same skills if we are talking about how they use their brain to find new solutions. Then why limit a whole sector to men only when women's contribution is known and imperative? ", said Dereck J. Hogan, US Ambassador to Moldova.

At European level, in 2016, out of over eight million people employed in ICT, women accounted for only 16%. In Moldova the share of women is between 20 and 30%.
