Economic experts are predicting further price increases this year

Economic experts predict new price increases for 2020. Compared to 2019, when prices for food and agricultural products increased more, this year experts expect increases in a range of services, such as urban transport, electricity and natural gas, reports Radio Moldova.

For the current year, the Ministry of Finance has forecast an inflation rate of 5.7%. Experts believe that this is an achievable goal.

"Strong sources of price growth are not foreseen. One problem is the administrative prices, as many have been artificially maintained over the last few years and now will have to be increased, the price of transport between localities has already been increased. Most likely we will also have an increase in the price of transport within the localities, especially when we talk about Chisinau. In other localities I do not think that this increase will be,” said the expert in economic policies at IDIS“ Viitorul”, Veaceslav Ionita.

"Maybe we will have a slight increase in energy products, otherwise, elements of price growth are not foreseen. I do not think that, at least there are no premises to have problems in the foreign exchange market, the demand and supply of foreign currency is stable (…) I think that by 2020 we will have a much lower price increase than in 2019, most likely we will be in the area of 5%, plus-minus half percent, if certain exceptional situations do not happen, then we will have an inflation below 5%,” added Veaceslav Ionita.
