Government starts negotiations for a new program with the IMF

The government started negotiations for a new program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prime Minister Ion Chicu had a meeting with the team of experts of the International Monetary Fund, led by Ruben Atoyan, Mesager reports.

Chicu said financial support is essential for Moldova, whose economy has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the prime minister, the authorities are ready to discuss and comply with the provisions of the financing agreement.

For two weeks, the IMF mission will hold talks with the Moldovan authorities on a program that will take place over the next three years. It will be based on actions to support the economy, to promote good fiscal and financial governance, to strengthen the rule of law and anti-corruption measures.

Financial support amounts to $ 550 million. In September, the Memorandum is to be discussed at the IMF board.
