Ion Chicu about relations with the IMF: There are some conditions that we will not accept

Prime Minister Ion Chicu is optimistic about obtaining a new financing agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Chicu, however, said he would not rule out a pause in Chisinau's relationship with the IMF, if the financial institution insists that the Government renounces the announced infrastructure projects and won’t be allowed to increase natural gas tariffs. The statements were made during the Moldova Live show on Moldova 1.

"I remain optimistic that we will be able to successfully implement the program that expires this year. For the most part, it also depends on what additional requirements the IMF has. There are some conditions that we will not accept. The IMF knows this. I hope we will be able to reach consensus on other topics. There are all possibilities to complete this program, we even have the possibility to conclude a new program with the IMF starting in April," said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Ion Chicu.

The PM also announced that the national road construction projects would start shortly.

"Immediately after the New Year, the Ministry of Economy launched international tenders to contract the road sectors we were talking about last year. We will have about 60 days, the period in which we are waiting for the offers of the bidders. I hope that by the end of March we will have the contracted companies. I think that by the end of May we will start repairing the roads,” Chicu said.

Ion Chicu also announced that on January 22 in Chisinau all mayors of the country will be convened to discuss the presidential initiatives regarding the infrastructure projects that will be launched during this year, namely: drinking water supply, lighting, sanitation and completion of gasification. The meeting of mayors will be held at the Palace of the Republic.
