Ion Chicu: By the end of the year, the budget may undergo additional changes

By the end of this year, the budget may be subject to further changes. The statement was made by Prime Minister Ion Chicu, during the show "Public Life" on Radio Moldova.

"I think we will need corrections, somewhere we will have to supplement the expenses, and here again we are thinking about farmers, we still have the results of the evaluation. It is not excluded that for salaries we will have to add. On the other hand, there will be some savings on some items. So, the rectification of the Budget Law is unfortunately absolutely necessary this year. We have added additional money for that supplement to the pensioners and beneficiaries of social allowances who will receive 900 lei," the prime minister declared.

Referring to the uncertainty regarding a possible agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the prime minister came with clarifications.

"The financial component, which will be around $550 million, is spread over three years and six tranches. We have reached some agreements with the IMF, and in these preconditions, which were largely voted by the Parliament, you will not see tax increases, staff reductions, school closures. We have accepted only reforms such as: increasing the criminal penalty for corruption. If there is political stability, then the IMF will accept this program. I very much hope that by the end of this year the program will be completed," Ion Chicu specified.
