The bus and trolleybus park in Chisinau will be renewed

The capital will have new public transport. After several hours of debates, the Chisinau Municipal Council adopted today the Plan for the renewal of the public transport park. Thus, in the next four years, 250 new buses will be put into circulation on the streets of the capital, of which 100 will be purchased and the remaining 150 will be assembled locally. At the same time, 90 trolleybuses will be put into circulation to reduce overcrowding. Also starting today, a traffic lane destined for public transport appeared, reports Moldova 1.

The new road lane is intended only for public transport and cyclists. Stops for boarding or disembarking passengers must be made on the left lane, preferably closer to pedestrian crossings, to prevent pedestrians from crossing the street illegally. The same goes for taxis waiting for passengers. At the same time, parking on Pushkin Street is allowed only in specially arranged places on the sidewalk. Any other type of parking, including at the entrance to the yard, is illegal and can be fined.

The marking consists of two yellow longitudinal strips, the narrow line continues in a zigzag pattern, with the inscription "BUS" and the symbol "bicycle." Any parking is prohibited on the lane.

"In all countries, there is really such a band that only buses have to go, more convenient for passengers to get where they need to go faster."

"It's good because the other transport doesn't bother us, we'll drive faster and the people won't wait 20-30 minutes at the station".

"It's actually good for public transportation, but when the streets are very wide";

"It's very good because it is seen at once that you don't have to cross the yellow line," people say.

The public transport renewal plan provides for the assembly of 100 buses and 30 trolleybuses in Chisinau by the end of the year. Another 18 trolleybuses could be purchased from Riga. In the second stage, at least 150 buses will be installed. By 2023, the assembly of at least 90 traditional and articulated trolleybuses is also forecast.

"If we implement this plan, in four years we will have the decrease of the average age from 14.6 to 4.5 years, and the number of passengers per unit will decrease from 463 to 380 thousand passengers per unit, which is a European average," mentioned Alexandru Trubca, municipal councilor.

"The municipality has a certain amount of money and must look for additional sums of money for such a volume, an impressive volume of buses that must reach each community," said Ion Ceban, the general mayor of the capital.

The municipality will negotiate with Moldovan commercial banks a loan of up to 400 million euros for the purchase of buses, but also for the assembly of 30 trolleybuses, based on the partnership between the municipal enterprise RTEC and the Belarusian production company.
