Study: The COVID-19 pandemic creates pressure on the ICT sector

The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic create pressure on the ICT sector. The most affected remain IT startups and small companies that provide innovative and IT solutions and products to local and international markets, needed for integration in all economic fields. The challenges of the companies, but also the relevant figures are contained in a study conducted by the National Association of Companies in the ICT sector, which was attended by over 90 companies from our country, reports Moldova 1.

Tudor Darie runs an online lending company. The entrepreneur says that due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, he had to reorganize his activity. He claims that employees who work from home are less productive, but instead the number of users accessing the platform has increased.

"We need to learn how to use information technologies in this period, so that we can facilitate certain activities in our daily lives, we can buy products online, access the money from the bank account, apply for a loan or read the news we need,” said Tudor Darie.

The companies participating in the study mentioned that the main difficulties they face during this period are the suspension of the existing contracts, the decrease of the delay of the payments for the IT services and the circulation restrictions imposed on the international market. However, three out of ten entrepreneurs have stated that they will be able to ensure the functionality of the company, with the payment of salary payments and retention of jobs, for a period of more than three months.

"Many companies have adopted people's work at home, being more affected by those who depend somewhat on demand coming from affected sectors such as HoReCa. Those companies that provide IT services and do not develop IT products are more affected by demand,” said Natalia Donţu, Moldova IT Park administrator.

With a contribution of about 7% to the country's Gross Domestic Product and a turnover of $150 million, IT companies in our country export their products and services to over 30 countries around the world.
