Cafes and restaurants will be closed in Belgium

Cafes and restaurants will be closed in Belgium from Monday for four weeks, and traffic restrictions will be imposed from midnight until 5:00 am to stop the spread of the growing Coronavirus. This was announced by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Friday evening, after a crisis meeting of the Government, writes Agerpres.

"Week after week, the numbers are doubling, they are growing, it is an exponential increase," said the Flemish liberal leader, while Belgium is one of the European countries most affected by the pandemic, with more than 10,300 dead.

To avoid aggravating the situation, he announced a series of new restrictions on social life, the most spectacular of which is the total closure of the Horeca sector, restaurants and cafes, for four weeks, starting on Monday. An assessment of the measures will take place in the middle of the period, De Croo said, noting that there will be economic support from public authorities.

Until now, the closure of cafes only targeted the Brussels region and the measure was imposed until the beginning of November. Therefore, it extends to the whole country and also targets restaurants, which industry officials consider a disaster.
