Ecological catastrophe in Brazil: The number of fires in the jungle is increasing
Ecological catastrophe in Brazil: The number of fires in the Amazon jungle is increasing by 83 percent, due to deforestation and drought, as compared to the previous year, reports Messenger.
The damage is so great that the fires can be seen from space, as evidenced by NASA's satellite images.
Between January and August 2019, there were 72,843 fires in the country, compared to 39,759 for the whole of 2018. The increase in the number of forest fires in Brazil occurs after two consecutive years of decline and is the most important since 2013.
The most numerous fires were recorded in the states totally or partially occupied by the Amazon forest. The most affected state is Mato Grosso.
In South America, Brazil is the country most affected by forest fires in 2019, followed by Venezuela and Bolivia.
