China: Wuhan hospital director died of Covid-19 virus

The director of a hospital in Wuhan, the epicenter of coronavirus disease, has died of Covid-19 infection. The death occurs in the context in which hundreds of doctors in the area became ill, while doing their job. Worldwide, the death toll reached nearly 1,900 dead, and 72,000 infected, reports Moldova 1.

Liu Zhiming, the director of a hospital in Wuhan, was a neurosurgeon and died this morning of the new coronavirus. China reported last week that more than 1,700 medical workers were infected, of which at least six died. Many doctors report that they have to work until they are exhausted. A doctor was filmed as he collapsed on the ground several times and even lost consciousness.

After receiving medical care, he insisted on working the next day. Both the number of new cases of infection and deaths have slightly decreased compared to the previous days. This is also confirmed by the World Health Organization, who said that it is too early to say whether the decline will continue.

"Trends can change as the number of illnesses in other countries increases. It is too early to say whether the reported decline will continue. However, it seems that Covid-19 is not as deadly as other coronaviruses,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director General.

At the same time, China's medical authorities announced that nearly 13,000 patients had been healed and left the hospital. But doctors have asked coronavirus-cured people to donate blood, from whom plasma samples will be extracted to be used to care for patients who are still in serious condition.

"I would like to ask those who have already healed to donate plasma. By doing so, they will bring hope back to the souls of the sick who are still affected,” said Guo Yanhong, Deputy Director of the National Health Commission.

Passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship who show no signs of illness will be able to leave quarantine tomorrow, and one of the three Moldovans on the ship wants to return home. Our officials claim that they are trying to reach an agreement with the Japanese authorities. There are 23 Ukrainians and 17 Romanians, one of whom is infected, but his condition is satisfactory. Kiev authorities have announced that they will not evacuate their citizens for the time being, but they have sent a plane to Wuhan to bring the 49 citizens who are at the epicenter of the epidemic into the country.
