Paris and ten French metropolises, on high alert

The French government has announced new stringent measures to combat the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, the total closure of bars and restaurants in the country's second largest city, Marseille, and a "high alert" in 11 metropolis, including Paris, writes digi24.ro.

Due to the growing spread of Coronavirus, the metropolises of Aix-Marseille (southeast) and Guadeloupe (Caribbean) have been placed in the "maximum alert zone", announced the French Minister of Health, Olivier Véran.

This level of alert, preceding the state of health emergency, requires the total closure of bars and restaurants, a measure that causes concern in a sector already severely affected by spring isolation measures.

On the other hand, 11 other metropolises, including Paris, were placed on "high alert", which mainly means closing the bars at 22:00, as well as limiting public gatherings to 1,000 people, compared to 5,000 in present.

"The situation continues to deteriorate overall," warned Olivier Véran, at a time when all indicators have been deteriorating in France for several days.

According to data reported on Wednesday by the French health authorities, 13,072 new cases were registered in 24 hours, while the test positive rate continued its upward trend.

The number of cases increased compared to the 10,008 cases registered on Tuesday, but without reaching the record on Saturday (13,498 positive cases). The proportion of patients among those tested (positive rate) rose to 6.2%, compared to 6.1% the previous day.
