Vegetation fires in the Arctic part of Russia

More than 200 fires broke out in Yakutia, the lowest temperature in Russia, just 50 kilometers from the Arctic. Nearly 200 firefighters were mobilized in the area. Experts say the fire started after a lightning storm, and due to dry air and wind, the flames spread very quickly, Mesager reports.

A state of emergency in the Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk regions was declared because of the fire, and a 42-year-old firefighter lost his life in a firefight. Authorities will try to cause precipitation artificially.

On June 17, a record temperature of 38 degrees was recorded in Verkhoyansk, one of the coldest cities in the world.
