European states are facing a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases

European countries are facing a sharp increase in the number of new cases of Coronavirus infection in the coming autumn. If at the beginning of the summer the pandemic epicenter had moved to Latin America, now it seems that the pandemic is once again becoming extremely active on the old continent. France and Italy have again broken records in new COVID-19 cases. However, officials from the two countries approach the situation differently, Moldova 1 reports.

Paris became a city almost empty of people, with deserted streets, on Saturday evening, immediately after 21:00, with the application of the new restrictions imposed by the Government, which decided to restore the state of health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, more than 20 million French people are affected by the traffic restrictions, valid for a month, imposed in Paris, but also in other cities such as Marseille, Lyon or Toulouse.

Earlier this month, Slovakia imposed new restrictions to prevent the spread of SARS-VOC 2 infections amid a recent increase in cases. Authorities have announced that the entire population will be tested for the new Coronavirus. A first phase of testing will begin next weekend in certain areas of the country, where the main outbreaks are recorded.

In the last four months, 3,500 Portuguese have been fined for drinking alcohol on the streets and for not wearing masks, but even with stricter measures, people continue to gather on the streets. Since October 15, in Portugal, gatherings of more than five people on the streets, restaurants and shops are banned. It is now recommended to wear a mask in public, and the Government hopes to pass a law that will make it mandatory.

Due to a growing number of Coronavirus infections, several German cities have introduced stricter measures for restaurant owners. Thus, the bars, cafes, restaurants will be open only during the day, and every evening, at 23:00, the shops will be closed. The news has saddened entertainment lovers, and experts fear the measures will not have a positive impact on the economy or health.

Austria has decided to impose the first local quarantine since the outbreak of the second wave of the pandemic. In a small town near Salzburg, to stop the rapid spread of Coronavirus, police have set up roadside checks to check all cars entering or leaving the area. There are some exceptions for health care workers or other important cases. Austria saw the highest increase in new infections on Saturday, with 1,747 cases in the last 24 hours.
