The United States of America (USA) registered more than 60,000 new cases of Coronavirus for the fifth day in a row on Saturday, according to a report made by Johns Hopkins University, AFP reports, quoted by news.ro.

According to the Baltimore-based institution in Maryland, there were 61,262 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours at 20:30 local time (00.30 GMT on Sunday).

Also, 1,051 deaths were reported during this day.

The United States has so far recorded 4.6 million contaminations and 154,319 deaths, making it the worst affected country in the world.

These new figures have been released as Florida prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaiah, which is expected to become a hurricane again near the southeastern part of the virus-ravaged state.

Among the United States, California alone, which has double the Florida population of nearly 21 million, has seen more cases of Coronavirus.

On Saturday, Florida reported 179 more deaths, setting a new state record. The number of deaths due to the virus has reached 6,843.
