Euro-parliamentary elections: Romanian citizens from Moldova expected to vote

Romanian citizens from Moldova choose their representatives in the European Parliament on Sunday, May 26th. Under the decision of the authorities in Bucharest, a consultative referendum is organized on the same day. 36 polling stations will open in Moldova.

Both polls take place in the same polling stations, which are open from 07:00 until 21:00.

In the municipality of Chisinau there are 12 polling stations, including one in Durlesti. People can vote in Hancesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Causeni, Anenii Noi, Bardar and Calarasi, Cahul, Cantemir, Leova, Cimislia, Giurgiulesti, Balti, Drochia, Edinet, Falesti, Floresti, Soroca, Telenesti and Ungheni.

In order to cast their right to vote, Romanian citizens must have a valid Romanian identity documents.

Elections to the European Parliament have been held starting with May 23. The first people voted in the Netherlands and the UK. The right to vote was cast on 24 and 25 May by citizens in the Czech Republic and Ireland. Malta, Latvia and Slovakia voted on Saturday, and citizens of other countries, including Romania, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, are expected to vote today.

Results from all 28 EU Member States will be announced on Sunday evening at 23:00 Brussels time. This is the fourth time since Romania's accession to the European Union, when elections to the European Parliament are organized in Romania. Previous polls took place in November 2007, June 2009 and May 2014.
