The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Russian Federation could be recalled from office

Moldova's Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Andrei Neguta, could be recalled from office. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has today sent to the Executive a note to this effect, confirmed for Moldova 1 by spokesperson Alexandru Roitman

The reason would be how Neguţa handled the topic of opening the masked diplomatic representation of the Transnistrian region in Moscow and the fact that he did not promote correctly and with sufficient firmness the position of the Republic of Moldova on this issue.

Andrei Neguţa has been an ambassador to the Russian Federation since 2009. In 2012, the Government decided to recall him, after saying in an interview with ITAR-TASS that "early withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region would put threatening both to the Republic of Moldova and the entire region".

Until he returned to office in the spring of 2017, Neguţa was a deputy in the faction of the Party of Socialists.
