Co-rapporteurs of the PACE are concerned about the situation in the Republic of Moldova

Co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for monitoring Moldova, Egidijus Vareikis and Maryvonne Blonden expressed "deep concern about the situation at the moment in the country". At the same time, PACE co-rapporteurs have named the new Government as a "fully operational" one, says the institution, quoted by Radio Moldova.

"For three days, the country has been plunged into a state of legal and political confusion as a result of the Constitutional Court's interpretation of the deadline for the creation of a Government and the dissolution of Parliament while reaching a political agreement that led to the formation of a ruling coalition and a fully operational government," PACE co-rapporteurs said.

"We will await an urgent opinion by the Venice Commission on the legal aspects of these last decisions. Meanwhile, we urge all political forces to show restraint and respect democratic principles and the will of the people," the institution's statement says.
