PACE restores Russia’s voting rights

The Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) has voted for the restoration of Russia’s voting rights with 118 votes in favor of the resolution and 62 against. 10 parliamentarians abstained, Radio Moldova reports.

MPs from the Ukraine, Georgia, Poland and Baltic states voted against.

Three MPs from Chisinau participated in taking decisions, two of whom voted in favor of Russia - Socialist Vlad Bătrâncea and PPDA leader Andrei Năstase. MP of PAS Mihai Popsoi voted against.

In a live message on his Facebook page, Andrei Năstase explained why he voted for Russia's return to the Parliamentary Assembly. Nastase mentioned that both he and other European leaders promote "dialogue - the only way to guarantee the sustainability of the European project."

"Personally, I chose not to vote for one country or another, against a country or another country, I chose to vote for this important institution of the Council of Europe to have a positive influence on all states, including the Russian Federation, on very important issues related to human rights and the rule of law", said the head of the Chisinau Parliament delegation to PACE, Andrei Năstase.

MP Popsoi argued why he voted against the return of Russia to PACE "I voted against to support our Ukrainian neighbors. We have been strongly urged by our Kiev partners to support them in this voting exercise", said Mihai Popsoi.
