Independent MPs filed a petition with the Constitutional Court

Independent candidates Ion Groza, Aleksandr Oleinic and Viorel Melnic ask the Constitutional Court to rule whether Parliament has the right to change the electoral system at intervals of less than a full term of the Parliament and if early parliamentary elections can be organized under a different electoral system than the one used at the ordinary parliamentary elections, reads a press release from Parliament.

The three MPs today filed a petition to the Constitutional Court and reques that it should be examined as a matter of urgency.

The MPs believe that "modifying the electoral system to hold early elections just for some political actors is a serious violation of the principles of rule of law, free and democratic  elections, recommendations of international institutions."

The Constitutional Court registered the MPs’ notification and  will examine it.
