Chisinau and Bucharest Governments will continue cooperation

The Government of Chisinau will continue the cooperation with the Bucharest Executive in implementing projects of common interest, said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and the Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă in a briefing after the meeting held at the Victoria Palace.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said that Romania will strive to increase the benefits of the European Union (EU) in the Republic of Moldova and showed interest to boost bilateral projects.

"We identified today the areas of immediate concern, on which we will focus first in the next stage, taking into account the needs of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the two Governments will begin working within an intergovernmental working group, and we will consider which of the ongoing projects require immediate attention. Also, if necessary, we may need to run new projects to support the European integration of Moldova. The outcome of the discussions within the framework of the working group will be capitalized in the context of a future joint meeting of the Romanian and Moldovan Governments ", said the Prime Minister of Romania.

"We approached the opportunity to maintain the format of the joint sessions, which  proved to be a useful tool for coordinating the issues of the bilateral agenda. Another topic of strategic importance was the speeding up of the implementation of projects in the energy field, with emphasis on the completion of the construction and the putting into full operation of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline. We reiterated the vital interest in completing work on the entire site during 2020. We also discussed the importance of interconnection of high-voltage power lines as well as the construction of the Unirii Highway and the Prut River Bridge in the Ungheni region ", said Maia Sandu.

Chief of the Executive from Chisinau pointed to the need to increase trade between Moldova and Romania by encouraging Romanian companies to invest in Moldova. Maia Sandu also requested Romania's support to strengthen the capacities of local public administration.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu said that the visit takes place in an important political context for both countries: Romania has concluded its presidency in the European Union and Moldova has managed to overcome the political crisis.

Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Andrei Năstase were welcomed by the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis  this morning. This is the first visit by Maia Sandu in her capacity of PM.
