Igor Dodon: The presidential election must take place on November 1, 2020

The presidential election is due to take place on November 1, 2020. A statement to this effect was made by the country's president Igor Dodon during the "President Responds" show. The head of state said he would not ask for the postponement of the election.

"The presidential elections must take place this year, on November 1, 2020. From September 1 until September 11, we will know exactly who are the candidates for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova, because these candidates must go to the CEC to submit the registration documents of the initiative group. Next, he has to collect 15-20 thousand signatures and go to register no later than October 1. On October 1, the electoral battles between the candidates begin," said the head of state.

The presidential election will take place on November 1. Earlier, the leader of the Action and Solidarity Party, Maia Sandu, the leader of the DA Platform, Andrei Năstase and the leader of the National Union Party, Octavian Ţîcu, announced their intention to participate in the race. The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, has not yet answered for sure whether he will fight for a new term as president.

The President of the Republic of Moldova is elected by direct vote for a term of four years. A person may be elected head of state for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
