Maia Sandu: Why are so few people being tested if the tests exist as authorities say?

The Party for Action and Solidarity (PAS) states that the Government is not honest with the citizens when presenting information on the epidemiological situation in the country of COVID-19 infection. PAS president Maia Sandu told a briefing that she receives daily messages from medical workers, who complain that they do not have protective equipment, are not properly trained and do not have clear protocols on how to proceed in one case or the other.

"For several weeks, we have heard that we have enough tests, that we buy hundreds of thousands of tests, but we see that while in other countries, in one day, tens of thousands of tests are made, in Moldova only some people are tested. What happens, what's the reality? Why are so few people being tested if the tests exist as authorities say? (...) If all the doctors are equipped with masks, suits and other protective materials, how has it happened that so many doctors have become infected?” asks Maia Sandu.

In this context, the PAS leader asks the authorities to tell the truth, so that the opposition, civil society, journalists stand in solidarity and contribute to combating the COVID-19 epidemic.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, up to now, 353 cases of infection with the new Coronavirus have been registered in the Republic of Moldova.
