Maia Sandu: There is a risk that external partners might not provide assistance

Today's actions in Parliament mean a NO to justice reform. This was announced by the Prime Minister Maia Sandu after the meeting of the Legislative ended. The PM says that a possible dismissal of the Government would mean some risks regarding access to external funds.

"What they said there are fakes, and the proof is that European money is coming into the country. We want to clear the state institutions, to consolidate ourselves. We must remain united. We want justice, to imprison all of them, not nice talks, but behind the back - agreements with corrupt judges. We do the right thing, but the decision belongs to those who signed this motion. We have seen what a politicized justice looks like, we want a free justice. There is no availability to look for solutions, there is only fear of a free and independent prosecutor. This Government is the only credible that was able to restore the financing, we have brought several billions of lei in these few months”, said Maia Sandu.

Asked why the Government insisted on assuming responsibility for changing the Law of the Prosecutor's Office, Maia Sandu said "because otherwise it was not possible and because we cannot compromise this process of choosing the general prosecutor. We can only restore the confidence of the people in the state and in their country if we are able to build their trust in justice. Some people appreciated the authenticity of the reforms we are promoting, the way we have begun to fight corruption, people realized that things are not done overnight, but they have seen a lot of political will in this Government, to make real reforms” .

Also, Maia Sandu  pointed that a possible dismissal of the Government would mean some risks regarding access to external funds. "The risks are very high because these actions of the Parliament mean a NO to justice reform, without a reform nobody will finance. It seems that ( Igor Dodon) is ready to sacrifice everything for his own interests, but we will see what will happen", said Maia Sandu.

The Standing Bureau of Parliament will meet to determine the date of the plenary session to debate on the no confidence vote.
