Maia Sandu at the sitting of the new Parliament: From now on, I declare zero tolerance for corruption

President Maia Sandu gave a speech in front of the newly elected Parliament of the 11th legislature, convened today, July 26. The head of state listed the priorities of the current Legislature and the future Government. At the same time, Maia Sandu is confident that honest and reformist deputies have access to the new Legislature.

"More than 7 months since I became president, I am coming before the Parliament for the first time. I am glad that I can do it in a new and legitimate parliament that will have an honest and reformist majority. I congratulate the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for their vote ", Maia Sandu mentioned in her speech.

The head of state was confident that after 30 years of independence of the Republic of Moldova, "the time has come to build a state for the people".

"It is time for a real revolution in which the country is governed. The order must start from the Parliament that people are waiting for. Parliament's work must be transparent. The laws must be proposed for public consultation, for the people to express their point of view, and for the experts to contribute ", said Maia Sandu.

In her speech, President Maia Sandu said that in the next few days the Government will be voted.

"Together with the Parliament, it must find urgent solutions to a lot of problems, caused by the irresponsibility and corruption of previous governments. It has to find solutions to get the state out of the previously signed harmful traps, it has to take state-owned enterprises out of bankruptcy, it has to recover important state property, it has to clean up state institutions one by one of corrupt interests and ensure their functionality, it has to  urgently restore external financing, it must unblock important projects ", said the head of state.

Integrity will be the first criterion according to which those who work in public institutions will be evaluated, Maia Sandu also emphasized in her speech.

"From now on, I declare zero tolerance for corruption, of any level in any institution. The verification of integrity must begin with the leaders of the institutions, because many of them have tolerated or even been the perpetrators of numerous corruption schemes. Corrupt people must be replaced by honest people. Do not try to run away, because you will not be able to hide ", added the head of state.

Today, July 26, the newly elected Parliament met in the first sitting. However, the meeting was postponed for Thursday, at the request of PAS deputy Igor Grosu.
