Many Romanian citizens from Moldova wait to cast their vote

Many Romanian citizens from Moldova queue in front of the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau and wait to cast their vote. In all, over 30,000 people from our country voted. Over 12, 000 people voted in Chisinau and by 1000 each - in Balti and Cahul. Similar figures were recorded in Ialoveni, Bardar and Orhei. More than 12,000 people participated the consultative referendum on justice laws, Mesager reports.

People believe this vote will bring them closer to Romania and the European Union.

The biggest queues were formed at the polling stations opened in the main cities of Europe. Hundreds of Romanians waited for hours to vote in Munich, Stuttgart, Rome, Turin, Parma and Brussels etc, and protests were organized before some polling stations.

According to the Permanent Electoral Authority, nearly 19 million people are expected to vote.

The main Romanian politicians and party leaders voted in the European Parliament elections. Some have also participated in the referendum initiated by President Klaus Iohannis, others claim that the vote is a new European start, including Romania, because presidential, local and parliamentary elections will take place in the next two years.

Polling stations will close at 21:00.

Please note that 36 polling stations are open on the territory of  the Republic of Moldova. The Romanian citizens  from our country are expected to vote until 21:00.
