The head of state supports the idea of concomitant elections

If the Constitutional Court establishes that the early presidential and parliamentary elections can take place the same day, the head of state will invite the parties in Parliament to the negotiating table, with the exception of the "Şor" Party and the "Pro Moldova" group. The statement was made by Igor Dodon, during a show on a private television station. The official says he supports the idea of holding the presidential elections on the same day as the early parliamentary elections, in case the parliamentary majority falls apart. On the other hand, the opposition says that the only solution for concomitant elections would be the resignation of Igor Dodon, reports Moldova.

"If the majority coalition or this parliamentary majority loses two or three deputies and is unable to act further, I consider that: either a parliamentary majority is created between parties, true, not Şor and Candu, or we better go to early parliamentary elections. If the Constitutional Court says that it is possible that they will be organized the same day, I will invite these four parties, which I consider to be true, the DA Platform, PAS, PDM and PSRM, I will invite them to the presidency to see if everyone agrees, to reach a formula for dissolving the Parliament, in order to hold the presidential elections together with the parliamentarians," said the president.

At the same time, the president of PAS, Maia Sandu, considers that the only solution to have early parliamentary elections on the same day as the presidential elections, as proposed by President Igor Dodon, would be the resignation of the head of state.

"The Action and Solidarity Party has 15 deputies in a 101-member parliament. What we can do is offer solutions that may or may not be accepted by other political actors. And the solution we have identified now is early elections, which can only happen if Igor Dodon resigns. This is the solution," said Maia Sandu.

At the end of last week, the head of state declared that he would not resign, and the Parliament established that the date of the presidential elections will take place on November 1.

TRM.MD recalls on May 19, the Party of Socialists addressed the Constitutional Court to see if early parliamentary elections and presidential elections could be held on the same day. A similar request was submitted on Wednesday by PAS deputy Sergiu Litvinenco.
