The project that provides for the extension of the vote for the diaspora, rejected from the agenda of the Parliament

The voting procedure for the diaspora has heated up the spirits in Parliament today. The draft amendment to the Electoral Code, which provides for the extension of voting abroad to two days, as well as an increase in the number of ballots, was not included in the agenda of the plenary sitting. While the opposition accuses the government of neglecting the rights of citizens to exercise their right to vote, representatives of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) say that, in fact, the project has no financial coverage and has not been approved in committees, reports Moldova 1.

"We also agreed with civil society, including those from Promo-Lex, who supported the project, including two days of voting in the country. Moreover, in this project we proposed replacing the ballots from five thousand to ten thousand, because there would be two voting days, every day five thousand," said the deputy of the DA Platform Vasile Năstase.

Although representatives of the Democratic Party announced their support for the initiative, they urged members of the other factions to join forces to improve the draft amendment to the Electoral Code.

"Let's make such changes as the Electoral Code to serve all political groups and the country as a whole, but not so fleetingly - we did it here, then we come in two weeks with another project and so on. We appeal to everyone to think and come for this project with fundamental proposals," said the PDM deputy Dumitru Diacov.

However, the initiative to include the draft on the agenda was supported by only 42 deputies. Opponents of the PSRM and the Şor Party were against it.

"We very much regret this vote and I believe that the diaspora saw who and how voted," said DA Platform deputy Alexandru Slusari.

On the other hand, in a press briefing, the vice-president of the Parliament Vlad Bătrîncea stated that, in fact, the opposition would not have really wanted to advance this project, as the document would not have received the Government's approval and was not discussed in parliamentary committees.

"The procedure that the Socialists voted against the diaspora is at least manipulative. Colleagues have made no effort to endorse this project here in Parliament, in committees, and to discuss it with other factions, when we sincerely practice, when we sincerely want to have a majority. We consider that it is not just a bad intention, but it is a challenge and it is a manipulation," declared the PSRM deputy Vlad Bătrîncea.

TRM.MD recalls that in the second round of the presidential elections, at the polling stations open abroad, over 260 thousand voters went to the polls, representing the largest number of voters since the organization of polling stations abroad.
