President Igor Dodon's reaction to the exchange of remarks between Prime Minister Ion Chicu and MEP Siegfried Mureşan

President Igor Dodon claims that "in recent days several statements have been made that could unjustifiably affect the good relations and strategic partnership that the Republic of Moldova has with various external partners and especially with România and the Russian Federation." The reaction comes after an exchange of remarks on social networks took place on May 22 between Prime Minister Ion Chicu and MEP Siegfried Muresan.

"I note with concern the provocative way in which the Republic of Moldova and its institutions are denigrated by some MEPs, who in recent years seem to be rather members of opposition parties in the Republic of Moldova and have a partisan approach to the interests of ours citizens, one that often creates tensions and distorts the realities of our country," the president mentioned on his Facebook page.

"Unfortunately, lately, we are witnessing more and more often the use of our relations with some of our external partners for political and populist purposes, and I believe that these approaches must end. Our collaboration must be one strictly oriented towards the interests of the citizens and not be affected by various statements, regardless of which side they are made of," added Igor Dodon.

TRM.MD recalls that the MEP Siegfried Mureşan criticized the activity of the Government led by Ion Chicu, mentioning that it "fails in managing the COVID-19 crisis, because it also failed in implementing the reforms". In his turn, Prime Minister Ion Chicu specified that the opinion of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova is important for the Government of Chisinau.
