European Union, ready to support the Republic of Moldova

The European Union (EU) will continue to support the Republic of Moldova both in the process of vaccinating Moldovan citizens and with financial resources in order to implement the planned reforms. This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during the meeting with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu.

According to a statement issued by the media service of the presidential institution, during the meeting, the parties discussed the importance of faster access to anti-COVID-19 vaccines for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the need to provide the healthcare system with protective equipment and about the importance of financial assistance for Moldova in the coming years, as well as on the role of the Eastern Partnership in bringing us closer to European values ​​and standards.

"Ms Ursula von der Leyen assured us that we can continue to rely on all the EU's support both for vaccinating our citizens and for continuing financial assistance to implement the planned reforms", ​​the president of Moldova Maia Sandu said after the meeting.

Other topics discussed with the President of the European Commission focus on the serious situation of farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises in the Republic of Moldova as a result of last year's pandemic and drought and solutions to help them  to overcome the crisis.

According to the quoted source, today, the moldovan president, Maia Sandu, also had a meeting with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell.

"We discussed the priorities of my visit to Brussels, namely the reopening of political dialogue and the initiation of close cooperation with our European partners, ensuring faster access to Covid-19 vaccines for our citizens, especially for those at risk and the way we can advance as efficiently as possible on our European agenda ", reads the press release issued by the Presidency.

According to the presidency, during the meeting, Maia Sandu invited Josep Borrell to pay an official visit to Chisinau.

We remind that the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu pays an official visit to Brussels between January 18-19. During the visit, Maia Sandu will have meetings with top officials from the European Union institutions.
