Protection dams, installed by rescuers in several localities in Moldova

Rescuers, assisted by residents, continue to strengthen protection dams in several localities in Moldova to prevent flooding in the meadows of the Prut and the Nistry rivers. Likewise, the employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations inform that they monitor the situation in the country at the water level measurement points on these two rivers, and in case of need, they are ready to intervene, Moldova 1 reports.

On the Prut River, between Ghioltosu and Ţiganca localities in Cantemir district, rescuers consolidated a dam over a distance of over 100 meters.

Dam fortification works also occured in Dancu village, Hincesti district. Rescuers along with local people, reinforced the dam using 150 sacks of sandy clay.

Flood risk prevention activities were also undertaken in the localities of the Nistru river meadow. Several dams in the villages of Răscăieţi and Cioburciu were consolidated and over a thousand cubic meters of clay were used, but 18 technical units were trained, and dozens of rescuers and local people worked to strenghen the dam.

Similar actions happened in Crocmaz locality, Ştefan Vodă district, where over 400 sandbags were used to strengthen the dam.

Meanwhile, due to the decrease of the water level on the beach from Vadul lui Vodă, the decision was taken to dismantle the metal dam, which protected the leisure sector in the area for several days.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations mentions that rescuers continue to monitor the situation in the country at the water level measurement points on the Prut and the Nistru rivers.

Following last week's heavy rains in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine, the water level on the Prut River has risen and the water from the Nistru River has come out of the meadow. Due to rains in Moldova, several localities and agricultural lands in Moldova were flooded.
