Floods in several localities in Anenii Noi district
In several localities in Aneni Noi district, several agricultural lands, gardens and wells were flooded, Moldova 1 reports.
In the village of Şerpeni, several households and hectares of agricultural crops were flooded. In this area the water is advancing slowly, and the dam of a few kilometers protects households from a possible flood. The mobile intervention teams monitor the situation, and in case of need they will intervene in the risk areas. Existing dams are inspected, and they are strengthened if necessary.
The floods also affected train traffic. According to a press release of the Moldova’s Railway, on Moldova’s Northern segment of the Lipcani-Mămăliga due to the high water level, the train traffic on the affected parts was temporarily stopped. The other railway sectors in the region Ocniţa-Lipcani, Ocniţa-Vălcineţ, Prut-Cahul and Cahul-Giurgiuleşti affected by floods, are under the monitoring of specialists.
In July-August 2008, Ukraine, Romania and the Republic of Moldova were hit by one of the worst floods in the last two centuries, when after washing the protective dams, the floods in the valleys of the Nistru and Prut rivers continued for several days in a row.
