The city of Cahul - the first "Start-Up City" in the southern region of the country

The city of Cahul will become the first "Start-Up City" in the southern region of the Republic of Moldova. According to a grant agreement signed between the Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies of Moldova (ATIC) and Sweden on September 15, several investments will be made in the region to strengthen the potential of the digital economy, increase local employment in the field of ICT, developing businesses based on innovations, but also increasing the competitiveness and attractiveness of the region, Radio Moldova reports.

Thus, starting with the current month and until 2024, in Cahul, several investments will be operated that will contribute to the development of the region. Over the next four years, innovation partnerships between the private sector, the public sector and educational institutions will be encouraged; technology will be promoted as a solution to community problems and the study of STEM disciplines, so that IT becomes more attractive for everyone, regardless of age or gender; the capacities of innovative StartUps in various sectors and the preparation for investments will be created and strengthened.

The EU4Innovation Center in Cahul will have an area of 1,500 m2 and 137 programs and activities, in order to encourage the use of technologies. Thus, 11,500 students from Cahul and over 50,000 students from 200 schools across the country will study IT subjects, 500 teachers will improve their digital skills in training programs. Also, 300 students from universities and colleges will take training courses in IT and related fields.

The project "EU4Moldova: StartUp City Cahul" will be implemented with the financial assistance of the European Union and aligns with the priorities of the Eastern Partnership and addresses the sustainable socio-economic development of Cahul and neighboring localities, completing the regional coverage of cooperation assistance to the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
