A shell, found on a construction site in Stăuceni

A shell from the Second World War worried inhabitants of Stăuceni commune. It was found by a group of workers on a construction site. An operative group from the Riscani Police Inspectorate went to the scene, as well as the team of engineers from the Genius Battalion, who searched the area to determine if there were any other dangerous objects, reports Moldova 1.

Residents near the construction site say it is the first time such ammunition has been found in the region.

"During the excavation works of the gas route, a shell was found, at which all the works were stopped", declared Iurie Colţa, executive director of the construction company.

The workers found the shell at a depth of one meter. Engineers are investigating the area with metal detectors to make sure there are no other explosive objects.

"On the spot, the team of sappers from the Sappers Battalion, led by Captain Ion Golovei, went. They identified an 82-millimeter bomber from World War II," said Ala Diaconu, a press officer at the Ministry of Defense.

The shell is to be detonated in a safe firing range.
