1,700 people and families with low incomes received social housing

About 1,700 people and families with low incomes have benefited from social housing over the past five years as part of a government-initiated project with the support of the Council of Europe Development Bank (BDCE). Another 700 will receive their keys by the end of this year.

Beneficiaries are families with many children, people with special needs, but also employees in the budgetary sector who did not have sufficient resources to buy a home.

During 2014-2018, 484 social apartments were built and put into use in the districts of Călăraşi, Briceni, Sîngerei, Hânceşti, Soroca, Nisporeni, Leova, Falesti and Ialoveni. By the end of this year, another 193 social housing will be completed in the districts of Glodeni, Rezina, Cantemir, Cimislia and Cahul, reads a Government press release.

The social apartments were built during the second phase of the housing construction project for socially vulnerable strata in Moldova, financially supported by the BDCE, which offers our country a total loan of about 13.4 million euros.

The project aims at completing the abandoned blocks at different stages of completion, renovating dormitories of poor educational institutions, and reconstructing other unused public spaces that can be transformed into dwellings. Thus, about 2,400 low-income people could enjoy about 680 social dwellings.
