"Air Moldova" accuses the government of blocking their activity

They accuse the government of blocking their activity. During a press conference, the representatives of Air Moldova stated that they contracted a loan from a bank in the Russian Federation to pay off their debts to Avia Invest, but once the money reached the accounts in the Republic of Moldova, they were blocked by the bank. Everything was done for the concessionaire company to be brought to the brink of bankruptcy, the company said. On the other hand, Prime Minister Ion Chicu says that Avia Invest has had enough time so far to honor its obligations to the state, and the money was blocked because the company exceeded the deadline for paying debts, reports Moldova 1.

"The statements made by the country's leadership regarding all efforts in the return of Chisinau International Airport to the state, the declaration of insolvency of the concessionaire SRL Avia Invest, make us believe that the blockade of 2 million euros was clearly directed to achieves a well-defined goal - causing the insolvency of SRL Avia Invest," said Mariana Shargarovschi, lawyer of AIR Moldova.

The chief executive said that financial means from abroad are being checked to counter money laundering. According to Prime Minister Ion Chicu, the account was blocked because the concessionaire company did not pay the debts until April 30, a deadline set by the authorities.

"Despite the fact that they charged the highest airport tax, they at one stage dared not to pay state taxes. Not to mention what they pay for the concession, it seems to me that the last time was two million lei, but the taxes that come to the state through two directions, have accumulated a debt of 118 million lei," mentioned Ion Chicu.

On Monday, Ion Chicu announced that the state initiated the insolvency procedure of the company that leased the Chisinau International Airport, invoking a debt of the company to the state in the amount of over 22 million lei. The prime minister then announced that its accounts had also been blocked. Subsequently, the company "Komaksavia Airport LTD", the majority shareholder of "Avia Invest", filed a claim with the Stockholm Arbitration Court against the Government of the Republic of Moldova. Its representatives are seeking compensation of €885 million.
