Moldovan-Swedish bilateral consultations held at the Ministry of Defense

The Moldovan-Swedish consultations in the field of defense started today in Chisinau, with representatives from the International Cooperation and Strategic Planning Division with their counterparts from the Kingdom of Sweden.

During the event, experts review the multi-segment bilateral activities that took place in 2018 and set the priorities for cooperation for 2019.

The discussions mainly concern the process of reforming the defense sector, the actions taken to achieve the transformation of the National Army, focusing on the professionalization of the institution, intensifying participation in peacekeeping operations, strengthening defense capabilities and identifying new common projects.

In Chisinau, the delegation from the Kingdom of Sweden met with Secretary General Radu Buduja. The parties discussed the implementation by our country of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security" and the Small Arms and Light Weapons and Ammunition (SALW) Program, actions supported by Sweden.

In this respect, Radu Burduja mentioned the importance the Defense Ministry attaches to bilateral military cooperation and thanked Swedish representatives for their support for international commitments.

In turn, Colonel Jerker Sundstrom, the head of the Swedish Ministry of Defense delegation, mentioned his country's readiness to further support the reform initiated in the National Army through field assistance projects requested by the Moldovan side.

The Moldovan-Swedish military consultations take place between 15-16 May and are stipulated in the External Action Plan of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army of the Republic of Moldova for 2019.
