Old Orthodox Christians today celebrate St. John the Baptist

Old Rite Orthodox Christians today celebrate St. John the Baptist, considered one of the greatest prophets. According to the scriptures, he managed to survive the massacre of Bethlehem infants. At the age of 30, the prophet came to Jordan to baptize Jesus Christ. Today, in the holy places in the country took place the liturgies officiated in honor of St. John, reports TV Moldova 1.

Dozens of believers arrived today at the church of St Parascheva in Chisinau to pray to St. John. For most of them, this holiday has a special significance.
  
The scriptures say he managed to survive the massacre of Bethlehem infants. At the age of 30, the prophet baptized Jesus Christ on the bank of the Jordan River. John the prophet had a death of the martyr, his head was cut off by King Herod Antipa.
  
According to statistical data, in Moldova more than 106 thousand men bear the name Ion, almost 58 thousand are registered with the first name Ivan. At the same time, almost five thousand women have the first name Ioana.
