Buckwheat imports will resume in July

Buckwheat imports will resume in early July. After stocks of this product were depleted and exporting countries stopped deliveries due to the pandemic, buckwheat was no longer sold in stores for several months in a row. But now the solution has been identified, and as an alternative is the one cultivated in the fields of Soldanesti, by the only producer in Moldova, Mesager reports.

"The National  Food Safety Agency (ANSA) has the information that an economic agent is registered, a producer in Moldova, which cultivates buckwheat on an area of 20 hectares. At the moment, he wants to deliver some quantities ", said Oleg Lişcenco, Deputy General Manager at ANSA.

Meanwhile, most Moldovans say they do not lack buckwheat, as they bought it before.

"I bought three or four kg and we consume two hundred grams each, we want buckwheat  for sale." "Russia  is expected to export to our country." "With this pandemic, people bought buckwheat, because they were afraid of hunger ", people say.

Buckwheat exporting countries stopped deliveries at the end of March. However, ANSA representatives say that the import of the product will be resumed at the beginning of July.

"Until the restrictions imposed by the Economic Council of the Eurasian Union are removed, we consider it appropriate to reorient importing economic agents to other buckwheat importing countries. The first five world  producers  are the Russian Federation,  the People's Republic of China, Ukraine, France, Poland ", said Oleg Lishcenco.

By March, more than 420 tons of buckwheat reached Moldova.
