Another successful operation in Moldova

Another successful operation carried out in our country. Neurologists from the Republican Clinical Hospital "Timofei Moşneaga" performed a difficult vertebroplasty operation, removing the vertebral hemangioma of a 50-year-old patient. Moreover, the medical technique, namely: neuronavigation is used only at the Republican Clinical Hospital, reports Moldova 1.

Marina says she had back pain for several years. However, they have become unbearable lately, and the woman immediately went to the doctor. After the operation, the patient feels well and has been discharged.

"The complexity of the case is that this tumor destroys the vertebral body and the vertebra becomes like an empty container, filled with blood. The process of performing the surgery takes place not only under radiological control, as a traditional method, but also with the use of neuronavigation,” said Aurel Bodiu, head of department at the Republican Hospital.

In the case of Marina, doctors say that the traditional operation would have been very risky.

"The patient had a less common location, a location in the thoracic region, if a traditional method had been used, then in this intervention it is difficult to target the vertebra, because imagistically overlap several structures, ribs sternum, clavicle and shoulder blade," says Aurel Bodiu.

To date, three such operations have been performed using neuronavigation.
