Investigation of bank fraud, criticized by a European official

In Moldova, corruption must remain in the past. Thus, the European partners expect the authorities to fight against this scourge, and Moldova to join the European anti-corruption network, adopt a law on justice in Parliament and respect the European recommendations and directives in this regard. The statement was made today by the Deputy Director General for Europe and Central Asia within the European External Action Service, EU - Luc Devigne, Moldova 1 reports.

"Since the Republic of Moldova signed the Association Agreement, the Free Trade Area and the Comprehensive Agreement with the EU, the export of Moldovan products to the EU has reached 70% and 50 thousand jobs have been created. This is a great success,” mentioned Luc Devigne.

"I want to assure you that the assistance from the European Union is very well controlled on many levels, every cent is controlled. At the delegation there are several levels of control, there are also in Brussels and the European Commission," said Peter Michalko, the European Union's ambassador to Moldova.

The Deputy Director General for Europe and Central Asia within the European External Action Service also mentioned that the European Union invites Moldova to join the European anti-corruption network.

"It is not normal and it is unacceptable that after reports have been made that present who were involved in bank fraud not to be held accountable and to always seek pretexts not to investigate the case. If it is not possible for this group to be legally punished, it is a problem in the state,” said Luc Devigne.

He also mentioned that the European Union expects the decisions in the Republic of Moldova to be taken in a transparent way, with the participation of the opposition, of civil society, following the recommendations of the Venice Commission, and the justice reform should be carried out with the agreement of all parties.
