Ion Chicu: The medical system in the Republic of Moldova is funded by insurance premiums

The medical system in the Republic of Moldova is functional exclusively from the money that comes from the purchase of compulsory health insurance policies, the prime minister, Ion Chicu, told Radio Moldova this morning, reiterating that the procurement of this premium is mandatory by law.

"The medical system in the Republic of Moldova, starting in 2003, is financed almost exclusively from insurance premiums. If someone does not pay the insurance premium the medicine does not have equipment, salaries, can not activate. It has been a law since 2002 that health insurance is mandatory. What kind of violation of human rights, if insurance is mandatory. It's not an invention, it's not a new law now approved. Every man is obliged to procure the health insurance," said the prime minister.

Ion Chicu also referred to the indexation of pensions from April 1. According to the prime minister, the process will not be influenced by the crisis caused by the COVID - 19 epidemic.

"The indexation of pensions and other social benefits from April 1 is a traditional one for many, many years, and so it targets 4.8% of all pensioners," commented Chicu.

At the same time, the prime minister specified in the program "Public Life" from Radio Moldova that the drivers exams, which were stopped once the entire educational process, will be resumed after the expiry of the term of emergency, because the risk of contamination under the current conditions is major.

"As far as drivers exams are concerned, the Public Services Agency that organizes these exams has limited the services provided to the citizens to the maximum. There are a few cases that are the most pressing. The exams were limited during this period, were stopped. I ask candidates who want to obtain driver licenses to show a little patience, I hope that in two or three weeks, ASP will resume its activity,” Chicu said.
