Media Forum takes place in Chisinau

Lack of media freedom, neglect of legislation and further politicization of the media. These are just some of the problems in journalism. The opinion was expressed by several officials and experts at the sixth edition of the Media Forum, held in a mixed format. More than 140 participants, including journalists, media managers and media experts, discussed the main difficulties and challenges and the new market trends, informs Mesager.

"We just want the tools to get information to work, a   legislation to ban media concentration and a free advertising market",  said Viorica Zaharia, president of the Press Council.

"We must all make every effort, and the media institutions, and the state institutions so that we get a free media and eliminate all possibilities by which misinformation flourishes in Moldova, including through very harsh sanctions, on non-transparent and illegal financing”, said Maia Sandu, the elected president of Moldova.

Ensuring the independence and freedom of the media in our country should be a priority, say the ambassadors accredited in Moldova.

"The legal framework has been improved in some areas such as the Audiovisual Code, but we still see that it is not applied. Ensuring journalists' access to information, including in emergencies is a key requirement", said Peter Michalko, EU Ambassador to Moldova.

"Moldova needs honest voices in the media. Citizens need access to a variety of media sources. And we all need to learn to identify misinformation when we see it, "said Derek J. Hogan, the US Ambassador to Moldova.

During the day there were several debates involving local and international experts, as well as representatives of public authorities. The media forum will continue tomorrow with several workshops and master classes in online format.
