The number of victims of trafficking in human beings is increasing

Although we live in the 21st century, the phenomenon of human trafficking remains a worrying one. In our country, the number of victims is increasing and only in 2019, a number of 72 people were exploited through work, and 32 - sexually exploited. Every year, on October 18, the people mark the European Day for the Fight against Trafficking in Human Beings. Most often, trafficked persons are taken to countries such as Germany, Poland, Greece, Bulgaria or even Italy, according to Moldova 1.

Most of the time, under the pretext of a well-paid job abroad, the victims go abroad, and all the promises of a decent life turn into a real slavery, from which it is almost impossible to escape. Specialists say that such cases are becoming more common in our country.

People's perception of this phenomenon remains divided. While some say that trafficking in human beings is a well-established scheme of organized groups, others blame the misinformation of those who choose to go abroad.

However, the authorities sound the alarm and say that in addition to cases of exploitation for work purposes, the number of victims exploited for sexual or begging purposes is also increasing.

"Since the beginning of the year, in the country, we have registered a total of 40 crimes related to human trafficking. Of the total number of crimes, half have been discovered and are being investigated by the center. In these cases, we have identified, in the country, we have 101 adult victims and 14 minor victims, of whom the center has identified 67 adult victims and 11 minor victims," said Vitalie Pşenicinîi, specialist at the National Center for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.

To prevent such situations, specialists urge people to be very well informed before going abroad, but also to make sure that they will work legally.

People in difficult situations can call the Hotline: 080077777 or the police.
