More than 50 percent of parents in Chisinau want kindergartens to reopen

More than 16,000 parents in Chisinau or 51 percent of the total want kindergartens to reopen. The data were announced by the capital's City Hall after conducting a survey. The municipality claims that the early education institutions are in full process of preparation for the resumption of activities, but warns that the risk of infection is high for both the little ones and the employees, reports Moldova 1.

In confirming the survey data, several parents said that it is necessary to reopen kindergartens, but with strict assurance of protection measures.

Even if they have not resumed their educational activity, the employees of the educational institutions come to work. According to Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici, 12 cases of COVID-19 virus infection were reported among school and kindergarten employees last week.

"The risks are high, because the impact of the virus on children's health and development is unknown. Therefore, this week we must ask the specialists to carry out information and accountability campaigns for parents," said Angela Cutasevici.

Last week, a group of parents protested in front of the Government, demanding the reopening of kindergartens, but also offering social protection for people who spent the pandemic period at home, with the little ones. Meanwhile, the people's ombudsman for children's rights, Maia Bănărescu, said that the reopening of kindergartens in a period of constant growth in the number of infected people can have detrimental consequences for the health of children and their parents. The decision to reopen the kindergartens would be taken by the Extraordinary National Commission for Public Health depending on the evolution of the pandemic situation.
